Piper felt at ease with him. She always had. It was just so
simple. It was like breathing… She watched him help her, finishing with the crates.
“I’m not ashamed of you or anything. I swear. I’m just not sure how they’ll
react…” She lowered her voice and made sure she was next to him before continuing.
“We’ve had a demon in the family unit before and uh…it wasn’t the most positive
kumbaya thing… If that makes sense? I don’t want this to even resemble this to
them. Because you’re not him…” She grins after the little kiss to her cheek and
moves on to the flowers. “I will. Thanks for reminding me. Your presence makes
a girl twelve kinds of flustered and preoccupied.”

“But I’m not a demon.” He pointed out to her with a smile as lowered his voice so only she could hear it, he understood the issues that her family had when it came to new men and ones that may or not be evil, but he had at least convinced Piper that he wasnt evil, which was true for the most part. “They might suspicious that I dont come to breakfast or lunches though.” He chuckled as he had told her he couldnt go out in the day light with his ‘curse’ so that she would stop asking why he only did night dates. “Maybe you are worried I will make them twelve kinds of flustered as well.” Axel teased.

She wasn’t sure how she felt about that advice. Should she
give Dan another chance? He hadn’t accepted her at all when he’d found out before
they took the memory of that away from him. He didn’t even want to see her or
look at her. How could she love someone like that? Clearly she did, but… Maybe
the question how could she still after that, not how could she continue…?

“I’m not really sure he could get used to me disappearing.
He didn’t like it much before and as we got more serious it was…more aggravating.
A constant issue. As well as…something else, that was an issue too…” She didn’t
really want to say more on that because the issue where she thought she felt
something for their handyman but could never make it work because he was also
their Whitelighter was… Well, it only compounded an already tumultuous problem with
an equally tumultuous problem. She didn’t need more problems.

And yet, here she was: unknowingly walking head-long into
another one…

“I guess I could understand that. You’re right of course…”
She smiled despite the sudden shift in the air as the weight of the secrets started
to cloud the space between them. “I really don’t want this to be weird. I like
you, Axel. I like that I can talk to you without judgment, even if you don’t
know everything.” She put a gentle hand back on his arm as he explained just a
bit more about himself, the last of what he felt he could tell her. She swallowed.
Her eyes shifted. He was five hundred years old!? That meant he had to be
something like…a demon or something right? It was then her eyes turned soft. He
couldn’t be evil. She’d seen no sign of it. She knew, or at the very least she
thought she did… And somehow the warning still played at the far reaches of her
consciousness.

“That’s…that’s a long time, Axel.” Piper’s voice was quiet.
“You must have lost a lot…over the years…”

“You have to find someone that will handle your needs as well as you handling theirs, it will be hard to find that person but maybe Dan is your person who will understand and take care of you.” The vampire mumbled as he sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, he had, had his share of lovers over the years and because of what he is he lost them when they found out.

He looked at her as she spoke and then to her face, he could see that she had feelings for someone else and that maybe Dan wasnt the one for her. But it didnt hurt to give him another chance.

As she put her hand on his arm he smiled up at her and lightly patted her hand. It was a small gesture of empathy and kindness and he knew she meant it, he could tell it wasnt fake like it had been with others.

“I have lost a lot and will to continue to lose a lot…..Unless there is some how a cure for what I have I will be stuck like this, never aging….never dying…Always losing those close to me.” He mumbled, though of course he could die if he went out in the sun, or if someone staked his heart.

Piper beamed when he told her he wasn’t stalking her. That
was a good thing and it was even better to hear out loud; she didn’t think she
could take that right now on top of everything else. As the encounter and the
exchange moved into her problems with Dan and why it couldn’t be fixed, Piper
realized that what Axel was telling her was actually making a lot of sense. It
hadn’t occurred to her that it wasn’t fair to her or Dan the more he pushed.
She knew it wasn’t her secret, therefore she couldn’t tell; that had been her
stance on it all along. She also knew, somewhere deep inside where she didn’t
want to admit because it would bring it to the surface, that it was true that
if Dan didn’t understand then he obviously didn’t really truly love Piper. Not
in the way that truly mattered…

“That…has been exactly my point this entire time. My stance
hasn’t wavered at all since we got together and maybe eventually I would have
been able to tell him but…it’s not the right time and it turns out it wasn’t
that serious to where I should have even been worried about being that honest.”
Piper’s eyes move over him as she speaks, watching him. He’s definitely not…normal.
That should feel familiar to her now, and in a way it does. She’s just…trying
to figure out what that means and just why she’s not completely unsettled by it…

Piper’s brows furrow together over her dark eyes as she
tries to put it all together from what little he’s actually told her. She gets
the gist of it all but there’s no actual answer to be had there. “That’s…not
telling me very much Axel. To be fair, I’ve told you a lot more about me and my
sisters without actually telling you. You could at least…allude to what kind of
curse it was…? That would be okay. I can put it together from there.”

“Maybe you should give Dan another chance, tell him as much as you can with out saying everything, Im sure he will be happy that you compromised and decided to tell him something. Though by the sounds of it he will have to get used to you disappearing.” Axel said with a laugh as he smiled at her, he liked being around Piper as she was easy to get on with, talking to her wasn’t hard and they just seemed to connect.

He watched as she frowned and looked at him, he knew that she wasn’t happy with his answer but he couldnt tell her, not yet at least.

His smile faded as she tried to pry a little more into what he was, he didnt know if she would try to kill him if he told her or what would actually happen. “Not really, you have told me you have sisters and that you have secrets that you can not tell your ex boyfriend. I understand that you can not tell me as you have only just met me and it is the same for me Piper.” He told her with a sigh as he looked down, he knew secrets were not a good thing even if you had just met the person, but this was one thing that he had to get to know the person first before telling them.

“Its a curse where I never die.” He told her. “I am almost 500 years old.” He explained, that was all he could actually tell her without telling her that he was a creature that could only go out in the day time and had to drink blood to live. “Thats all I can tell you.”

Piper’s eyes never left him, as alert as she always was, as he moved around the club and put all those boxes exactly where she wanted them without breaking a sweat. “You know, I wish my sisters knew what a gentleman you are…helping a lady out and everything…” She smirks sheepishly. “We should head out soon if you want. I know you have something planned… You won’t tell me…” Her tone was mocking indignant. She was playfully insinuating she’d like to know but then it wouldn’t be the surprise he’d promised.

“Maybe once they knew I was so good to you they would, but…I have yet to meet them.” He laughed as he put the last box down and smiled at her, brushing his shirt off of any dirt that was on it as he walked over to her. “Well no….I said it was a surprise and it will be.” Axel whispered as he kissed her cheek lightly and took her hand. “Might want to put the flowers in some water first…or they will die.” He pointed out as he figured that she didnt want them to die just yet or at all.

Pipers smile reached her eyes. It was a big and honest smile. “You can have whatever you want if you help with these. I swear, I leave explicit instructions and no one reads! It’s preposterous! Who doesn’t read!?” She gestures wildly at the note on the counter by her as they come inside from the loading alley’s door. “The flowers are pretty. Thank you. You remembered the ones I said I liked…” She trailed off as she got a little misty eyed.

“People are just worried about getting home before the traffic gets bad so they dont stop and think you wanted it done before they left.” HE said shrugging as he continued to carry boxes into the to the bar for her. “Just sit, I got this.” He told her knowing he wouldnt even break a sweat doing it for her. “Of course, what sort of person would forget what flowers you like?”

Piper had a rough day at work. Apparently leaving explicit instructions for the delivery of papaya coming in didn’t mean anybody there for it was going to read said instructions. Damn. Okay, then…

She wiped her brow, looked up and spotted Axel. She smiled. “Oh hey! You’re a sight for sore eyes, lemme tell you…” She sighed on a little laugh. “I know you came here to see me but…you think you could help?” She gestures to a big palette of boxes of papaya.

Axel smiled as he saw her and held out the flowers he had brought for her. “hmm. Maybe, do I get a free drink?” He teased as he picked up two of tjew boxes and carried them inside, in truth he could have just picked up the whole palette.
