Katie should have felt lucky in the situation she had found herself when the ‘change’ had happened. When the people that had only once seemed to rule the night had taken the world by storm when an unseen phenomenon had thrown the world into a permanent eclipse. It had allowed all those that had seen the sun as their one weakness to suddenly… have none. The young owl didn’t even want to think about the first few weeks. Chaos and death screeching its way through the streets and the earth permanently seeming stained by the spilling of so much blood.
Of course it had to end. The eldest of Them saw that. Cant kill off the food source and expect to continue their eternal lives. Which was when the new ‘rule’ came in. Having already been forced home by the violence of all that was happening the young owl just felt like this was the icing on top the cake. Blood Taxes and Patrons and- Well, Katie eventually stopped listening to the news. Her dreams of escape to be a singer had been crushed the moment she had walked back into her family home.
Her ‘training’ for what her parents wanted began again but this time it wasn’t just a dream of having their baby girl being amazing dancer. No, there was this whole new disgusting theme happening off families handing off their eligible daughters and sons to get in good with Them. Which was why tonight Katie found herself squeezed into a very elegant silver dress that gleamed with specks of gold in the light. She should have also been out on the floor dancing with one of the many available… Them scattered around the room but she just couldn’t ignore the way they looked at her like dinner.
Which was how she found herself…sneaking off. The large house holding the party was… exquisite. Fashionable… Yet Ancient. Two times clashing in a way that felt… right? Wrong? Katie shook the thoughts from her head as she stepped herself out onto an upstairs balcony. The fresh air was… exactly what she needed. She couldn’t stop herself for a moment just forgetting as she leant on the bannister and closed her eyes enjoying the feel of the cool wind on her flushed skin.
Alone. At least that’s what she first believed until the softest sound of footsteps had her spinning round coming face to face with one of Them. The air he gave off made the height difference she usually was able to use to her advantage… Well, this time she truly felt small. Her lips parted ready to say something when she realised she had no words. She was never lost for words. Say something. Say something. Her mind begged over and over. She should have stuck with silence with what finally came out. “Hey… Cold Evening huh?”
He had not liked what his people had done and all the killing the had done to keep the peace apparently. He saw it as a waste and not needed, he had tried to stop his kin from killing more than they needed to and had taken to only drinking every few days to try and stop the over feeding that was going on. After a while he was put in charge seeing as he seemed to know a better way of life where they and the others could live together without hte need for so much death.
He hated the parties that they threw and the way they showed off their power and money, of course he had both but unlike the others he didn’t show it. He lived in a small but modest cabin int he woods around nature and not int he city like most of his kind, but it didn’t stop him form having to throw parties and gatherings at his other house that was in the city and bigger than he liked. It was what they expected of him as the leader to throw these parties for them even if he hated it.
“I am sorry..” He said as he noticed that there was someone already there. “I can go if you would like to be alone.” He said softly as he sipped his drink of wine mixed with blood. “Unless you do not mind the company of an old soul looking for some quiet amongst this loud world?” Axel asked with a small smile.
“I would rather find love and die knowing that I had true love than live forever, being alone.”
