With quick movements, the messy scrawl of Axel’s order met the notepad. While the chef in the back did not yet need the listing, Selene would need it later when it came time to collect when he owed. “It is nice,” she agreed, “but it does get lonely on nights like these. You’re my first customer in what feels like ages,” the brunette exaggerated as she misplaced the notepad and began to walk down to the pies that were on display. “We’ve got cherry, apple, and pecan,” Selene listed before biting her lower lip. It had been hours since her last break, and the sight of the sugar crusted pie tops made her stomach growl longingly.
“Not many night owls in this town it seems.” He laughed as he looked up at her. He could hear her stomach growl as she listed off the different pies they had. “Grab two of your favorite and come sit with me. I haven’t had company in a while….It would be nice to sit and eat with a friendly face.” Axel smiled as he leaned back in his chair, he could tell that she needed a break, something to eat and to be off her feet for a few moments.
“You’re lucky we’re a 24-hour diner,” a sweet voice meets the chime of the diner door. Behind the counter a petite brunette waits for her customer to approach, a friendly smile resting upon pink lips. Bouncing on her toes, Selene’s fingers toy with her slender pen. The ball scratches against her notepad until the ink fills pale indentations. With the night having been quiet, the arrival of a customer brings light to the young woman’s tired eyes. “What can I get for you?”
He smiled as he heard her words. “That’s why I love this place.” Axel told her as he moved to take a seat, he watched her as she made sure the pen worked on her notepad. “Coffee and a slice of pie would be nice to start with…And maybe something a little bit later.” He said softly as he looked around the diner, he knew it would be almost empty this time of night, it was something he preferred as he tended to stay away from people.
