That’s Just Batty

Mina hummed softly as she walked through the narrow alleyways, making her way home after another night at the diner. It felt like it was going to rain; moisture held heavy in the air, and the clouds were making the moonlight that lit her path faint and weak.

She froze when she heard a clatter of a trash can’s lid, spinning about. She sighed in relief when she saw it was a cat, going to pet the creature, though she gasped when she saw it had something caught under its paws.

“Oh, kitty, let it go,” she said, gently lifting the cat by the scruff and carefully collecting the creature it had caught. Leathery wings and soft fuzz. A bat? She didn’t know they came into this part of town.

She carefully nestled the injured creature into the folds of her scarf; the cashmere and her neck’s heat should keep it warm. She took the remains of her dinner from her book bag and set it out for the cat, giving it a little kiss before returning on her walk.

Once home, she carefully moved the bat from her scarf. “Oh, poor little thing,” she cooed as she gently pet it, going to find a place for it to sleep. She found an old shoebox and removed her scarf, making a soft bed for the creature. Carefully, she used a rag to clean it’s wounds, and sighed when she saw they were minimal. “Good… I’ll take you to the vet in the morning..”

She pet the bat once more before nestling it in the scarf within the box, then she set it on her dresser before heading to bed.

Axel had been in a fight with another vampire before being caught by the cat who had actually hurt him more than the vampire did, he squeaked and tried to claw at it before passing out fromt eh pain.

The vampire didnt realise that he had been picked up by someone else or that he was indoors now, he slept through the night, lightly snoring as he did.

As the sun started to rise he brought his hand up to cover his face and roll over thinking he was in his bed, he cried out as he hit the floor. He rubbed his arm and his head as he looked around and realised he was not home. “The hell?” Axel mumbled as he stood up, thought he fell backwards in fright as he saw the figure in the bed before him, falling into the dresser he had just been on, causing noise to echo around the room.

She spun about as she realized just who it was. She was instantly crimson to the cheeks, moving to hide the painting with her body, but he could see that it was the forming image of his face, though his eyes were already complete, nearly perfect, but with a strange ethereal glow to them.

“A-Ahh! Y-You!” She fumbled to find words, gestulating as she struggled to find anything to say, but ending up accidentally throwing her brush, which stuck to the ceiling. She stared up at it helplessly, a bright splotch on the pale paint, like so many others, which suggested it wasn’t an uncommon occurrence. “Damn it..” She slowly looked to him again, blushing up to her ears. “S-So… I’m um… I’m Mina..”

Axel laughed at her reaction and he smiled as he held her art book out to her. “I kinda think that this is imprtant to you and I dont want you to lose it.” He said with a cool smile as he looked at the paint, grinning as he realised that it was his eyes he was staring back at.

As the paint hit the roof, he tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at her and at the many other splotches that were up there. “Axel.” He said softly as he got a little closer to her and put the book down next to her being careful of the paint htat was everywhere.

“I think he didn’t because the cage broke..” She hugged her plush protectively, then slowly looked to the cage to the sleeping owl. “A-Alright, I guess,” she said slowly, carefully opening the cage and setting her plush inside.

When he took out his wand, she stared a bit, seeming to study the item. She’d read that the wands’ woods could tell a bit about the wizard or witch. Her own was seven inches of rowan wood with a unicorn hair core, a bit of silver embellishing the handle in a pretty swirling design and creeping up towards the tip, but stopping halfway. It was hidden in her robes’ sleeve, and she didn’t like taking it out in case she might accidentally do something, as unlikely as it was.

“That could be why but I have an idea and Loki wont mind, dont worry I will be careful.” He told her with a smile as he closed the door to the cage and sat it on his seat before poking his wand through the bars.

His wand wasn’t anything special it had the hair of a phoenix in it and something else, he hadn’t really been paying too much attention he was just happy that it had chosen him and that he was headed to hogwarts. His wands was black with what looked like a a creeping vine that wound its way from tip to the bottem of the wand. Axel licked his lips and left the tip of his tongue out of his mouth as he mumbled a few words and cried out hppily as he change Loki back to normal. “HA! I did it!”

She let out a dark chuckle, chin lifting defiantly, neck bared, but in a challenging manner. “Oh really? A creature born in darkness against one born of the darkness… Oh, such an amusing scene.. These bonds bore me, remove them.”

Such authoritative tone from such a small frame in a precarious predicament, and yet- she seemed to have all confidence she could win any battle as she was.

“Oh…no you are wrong there, I am the darkness that lurks in everyone but they are too afraid to let out. I am more of the darkness you will ever be even if you were born in it.” Axel laughed at her tone. “I will not let you out of them, I know you can easily get out of them if you really wanted to, or can you? Try and do your magic you will find that it is a bit impossible with those on you.”

Mina groaned and let her head hang forward. She was just amusing 5 he other, really… He didn’t know her secret, how easily she could vanish without any harm. It amused her, really, how easily people were tricked..

“What are you going to do to me?” She sounded more curious than anything.

@the-solitary-monster

“Well anything I want really, you are at my mercy.” The vampire told her as he bent down and smirked. He flashed his fangs at her and laughed. “It was a big mistake for you to stumble upon my home.”

Soulmates.

dark-carnival-librarian:

She was in the middle of painting, and there was something that sounded a cross between classical violin and dubstep.. Such a strange combination. However, there was a call that it was open, and the music quieted a little bit, but not much. Within the home, the walls were a soft beige, but painted with light tan and deep brown. Images of leafless trees were formed from the darker shade, and flying birds, animals, and gentle clouds in the lighter were depicted on the walls. The floor was covered in plastic, and paint splatters were randomly about. The furniture was all sorts of mismatched, and there was a TV on the stand that was the source of the music. She was off in the dining room, just visible, seen painting on a canvas that stood near the splatter painted table, dancing as she dabbed and swiped paint across the canvas.

As he heard the call to come in he slowly made his way into the apartment, being careful of where he stood so that he didn’t stand on anything he shouldn’t as he rounded the corner where she was he smiled at her art work and the way she was dancing. “Nice work..” He told her with another smile, her art book under his arm as he moved closer to ehr to look at what she was working on. “I like it.”

“Oh, it’s fine, this one works well enough, just is a little worn, that’s all. I also sort of have a lot of books, but I didn’t want to put them all in my bag. Reading material, yeah?” She smiled, her head tilting a little with the action.

“Also, I don’t know who my parents were, but I guess one of them is magical, maybe both?” She shrugged a bit, deciding against thinking too hard on it. She didn’t want a headache. She’d given herself too many headaches daydreaming about what her real family could have been like.

When he brought a finger to her lips, she tilted her head the other way with curiosity, then her eyes lit up at the little beast. “So cute,” she whispered, then pet her plushie and frowned a little to it. “This is Jinx, his cage fell and broke on the platform and he started to fly off, but one of the older boys turned him into a plush so he couldn’t… I don’t know how to fix him, though…”

He smiled and reached out to lightly pet her plush. “That was…I guess nice of the boy, but he should have turned him back for you….Put him in with Loki if you want, I think I may be able to do something to help.” Axel told her with a smile as he pulled out his wand.

He wasn’t that great yet at using magic but he knew how to do a few things and he had an idea of sorts to fix her owl for her, and he was sure that Loki wouldnt mind the company tillt hey got to school.

“Mina,” she chirped, hesitating before shaking his hand. She sat down in the booth and pet the plushie she held, looking slightly nervous. She rummaged through her bookbag, which was stuffed to near tearing.

“This is awfully exciting, no? Daddy said he’d find a good school for me, but this school seemed to find me… Odd, though, the books say it’s passed down… I wonder who my parents are? They had to be like this, right? All magic?”

She had the tendency to babble when nervous, and now was no acception. While it wasn’t clear whether she was talking to her plush or the boy, she was at least making conversation.

Axel smiled as she told him her name and shook his hand, he frown though as he saw how worn her book bag was, he quickly opened one of his bags and pulled out a spare bag he had for her. “umm…you could use this more than me..” He mumbled as he gave her a small smile.

“Maybe…not everyone who is magical has magical parents..but they might have been..” He told her as he pushed his glasses up onto his now more, he smiled as he looked down at the plush in her hand before holding his finger to his lips and pulling a cloth away from the cage his owl was kept in, revealing a sleeping owl with black feathers.

Mina didn’t know she’d been born a witch. She’d dressed up as one for Halloween, as well as princesses, mermaids, superheroes, and whatever had come to mind. She was a normal girl, as far as she’d been concerned, though some funny things had been happening recently.

First thing was the Tarot deck she’d found. Every time she did a reading, the outcomes were so spot-on, people sometimes accused her of watching them or talking to someone else about their personal lives before storming off. Another was the time she managed to push back someone who was bullying her school friend- a full ten feet back. Not only was the distance quite impressive, but she was a good half a foot shorter than the rest of those in her class, and quite thin to boot.

She’d told her adopted dad, and all he’d said was that she was special. She didn’t know quite what that meant, and

Then came the letter. It was soon after her birthday, so she almost missed it because she was too busy playing with her new Rubix cube, trying to solve all the sides of it. It’d looked so easy… Then her father called her name and she immediately put it aside.

When he’d given her the letter and she read it through, she looked to him like it was a joke. He seemed just as confused as she, but he’d said that his best friend’s cousin had gone to the same school. At least they’d saved up for her to go to college.

After a few short days, she’d found herself on such a long train, holding a little plush of a tawny owl with gold eyes in both arms, wearing a uniform that was second- or third-hand, but fit her well enough, if a bit raggedy, her books in a bag over her shoulder. She was having trouble finding a place to sit, then she found a mostly unoccupied booth.

“A-Ah.. Excuse me? Is this seat occupied?” She was nervous, and a bit frazzled, her white hair a bit of a mess and her violet eyes wide with wonder and curiosity. She managed a smile at the other, though, despite her nervousness. Approaching people wasn’t her strong suit.

Axel had been born into a magical family and had been waiting for his letter to Hogwarts by the time he was six even though he had to wait for it. WHen he did get the letter he was beyond happy and had wanted to go off an buy his uniform and books straight away.

HIs parents had made him wait til a few days before he was set to travel to the school despite his pleas to go earlier. He had spent the first half of the day pouting till they had gotten to him getting a pet, he had chosen a black one that had green eyes like him.

As he sat ont eh train he had a book in his hands his thin framed glasses resting on his nose as he looked up at the voice he heard. “Oh…hey…uh..no…YOu can sit.” He stammered as he moved som eof his stuff so that she could sit down on the other chair. He gave her a small smile before running a hand through his messy blonde hair. “Axel.” He said as he held his hand out to her.

She made her way to her apartment and fell onto the couch, panting softly as she tried to catch her breath and think straight. After a few minutes, she sat up, only to notice her book bag was too light. A glance down- oh no. Her notebook was missing. She groaned and began to pace the room. Half her career and all of her personal project was in there… Well… She supposed she’d hear from him again… It had her name and phone number, as well as her address, on the inside cover

Axel sighed as he stood there, feeling like a screw up for messing up their first meeting he looked at the sketch book she had dropped as he tried to get the pages that had fallen out back in it before he noticed her address on the cover, he smiled and looked it up on his phone before heading over. He knocked on the door once her reached her place hoping she would be htere.
