Christmas Comes Early

“Well, I don’t know,” Anita snickered, happily shifting the tide of their conversation even if another presence lingered in the air, a something that was left unspoken as they sat in the warm car together. “That cheap stuff has a special place in my heart,” laughing, she cracked the window a bit, needing the fresh air on her hot face, thankful for the cover of night hiding her flushed cheeks.

“I’m glad that you told me,” she adjusted again in her seat, cursing herself for forgetting to buckle her seat-belt and doing just that before she forgot again. Anita had an odd sense of companionship with animals. She loved them as they were, precious lovable beings, but she couldn’t bring herself to owning any. Her work life was too unpredictable, besides, after raising her family’s pet from the grave when she was a child Anita wasn’t too keen on reliving that moment.

“Ah but having freshly made pizza is better than having frozen pizza dough with sub par ingredients.” He pointed out with a smile as he felt the cool air coming in from the window as she cracked it.  He took his hand off of her thigh and put it on the steering wheel as they got to a more windy part in the road.

“Though it has been strange I normally have wolves at my house in Sweden but here they do not come to my house it is as if a certain someone is forcing them to stay away.” Axel chuckled as he looked over at her. “….You might get lucky and a eagle may grace us with a visit. I had one sitting on my shoulder while I cooked it some food the other week.”
